Disposable Vases 01
2006

Flowers are traditionally arranged form the opening at the top of a vase. What if it were possible to use its whole surface? In that case, any part can become an opening and some things can even be upside down...

These vases are made from Oasis and are covered in a waterproof resin coating. They can be customized by piercing them all over with flowers or through cutting them into your desired form- with the cut-offs creating more vases to use. The vases are extremely lightweight but once they have been saturated with water for use they can hold up to 40 times their own weight in water. The glossy resin coating belies the disposable nature of the material that make up the vase, creating a visual friction between the perceived hardness of the vase and the ability to puncture through it. The change in its weight from water also changes it’s perceived value- making the throwaway vase seem like a very real piece of ceramics or glassware.
